Energetix
DJ, Producer, Sound Designer.
It started with an M-Audio Radium 61 and a copy of Reason 3.5. The year was 2003. A 16-year-old Energetix fumbled about trying to make something worthwhile. In a day when YouTube Tutorial Videos didn’t exist, it required scouring the web for hours in order to find the right tutorial for your taste. Coming from a history of playing piano and guitar, it didn’t take long for Energetix to figure out how to sequence and recreate some of the melodies he grew up listening to. While it would be some years before he was able to make anything that he considered worthy of releasing on any medium, this was the beginning of his journey into sound.
In 2006, Energetix attended his second Ultra Music Festival held in Miami, FL, the first being two years prior in 2004. It was at this point that his love of electronic music changed from a casual interest to a passion with no likelihood of burning out. After buying a pair of Technics SL-1200 turntables and a Vestax PCV175 3-channel mixer, he began training himself how to beatmatch and perform deep mixes between records. Hard Trance, Tech Trance, Techno and Breakbeats, and all things acid were among the genres he started out with, but the scope of his productions and mixes quickly grew to include many varying styles. He quickly gained a knack for sets balanced with fresh music and timeless classics, often interweaving differing sounds to tell a story. Although vinyl was on its way out by the time he started spinning, he still prefers the hands-on feel of turntables to any alternative that’s come out in the DJ market since.
Energetix quickly got involved in the underground scene in South Florida as a peak-time and after hours DJ. After linking up with a number of local crews, including Euphoria Project, Hostile TakeOver, Kaotiq Psyence, and Electronic Music Alliance, playing often at venues such as Club X-IT in Hollywood, Klub Kutters in Ft. Lauderdale, White Room in Downtown Miami, among many others.
In 2009, he was invited to DJ at Ultra Music Festival on the VIP stage. An honor, considering it was UMF that gave him the drive to start DJing in the first place. At the same time, he was attending SAE Institute Miami for their Audio Technology Program. The short 9-month course was an excellent primer for studio techniques and recording methods, exactly what he needed to push his productions to the next level. In the same year, he played his first time at Earthdance Florida, a yearly festival that he would return to for many years to come, both as a performer and as a stage coordinator as part of Full Range Audio.
In the time since, Energetix has started focusing solely on his productions, using an ever-growing arsenal of outboard gear mixed with choice software synths. Although fluent in both Logic and Reason, he currently uses Ableton Live in most of his original tracks and remixes, mostly for the ease of use it allows when using outboard gear. He uses whatever time left to him by his day job working on a Live P.A., some examples of which you can find on the Videos page. When he does play gigs these days, you’ll often hear Energetix playing to the tune of Progressive Psytrance and Tech Trance, always with some old school flavor.
